This tutorial is for technical and operations staff with heavy oil producers and service companies looking for an overview of production and reservoir issues involved in cold production.
Tutorial Description:
This course is designed to provide an overview of current practices and theory for heavy oil cold production. Course content will include:
- Production Engineering – drilling & completions, logging and perforating, production operations & equipment, sand management, gas migration & abandonment, facilities
- Reservoir Engineering – recovery mechanisms, field behavior, modelling
- Intervention – failure, workover methods, stimulation options
Instructor Biography:
Kirby Hayes has an extensive cased hole wireline background. Currently, he represents several corporations offering services and products primarily for heavy oil production in the Lloydminster area, through his company KHI. Kirby has conducted various seminars, short courses and workshops, and co-authored technical papers on a wide range of topics of interest to heavy oil producers.
Bob Mottram has more than 25 years of experience in heavy oil, in various engineering, operations and management roles with both producers and service companies. Currently, he is with the Grit Group of Companies in Lloydminster, as the General Manager of the heating products and technology divisions. Bob has conducted various heavy oil training courses in Canada and abroad, and published a number of technical papers related to heavy oil operations.
Ron Sawatzky is a Senior Research Scientist with the Alberta Research Council (ARC) in Edmonton, with nearly 20 years of experience in research and development for heavy oil recovery processes. Currently, he is serving as one of the team leaders for the Cold Production Research Group at ARC.
