50th ANNIVERSARY EDUCATIONAL TRUST FUND
A Brief History

The Petroleum Society has established the Petroleum Society 50th Anniversary Educational Trust Fund to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Society.

Aims and Purposes

The Trust was established to support educational programs, exhibits, projects, special events, conferences, seminars, meetings, awards, endowment of Chairs, and scholarships operated, administered and conducted by other non-profit groups, organizations, and Canadian universities, technical colleges or educational institutions for the the purposes of promoting, educating, or disseminating information related to, the petroleum industry.

The Trust has endowed a number of projects designed to give students a better background of the industry: One such project is "Oil From a Stone". In partnership with the Energeum and the Calgary Science Centre a permanent exhibit has been built at the Energeum in Calgary. "Oil From a Stone" will assist in promoting an awareness of the energy resources industry.

Another project approved of by the Trust is the restoration and preservation of the "Dingman No. 1 Discovery Well" at Heritage Park in Calgary. The Dingman is an exact replica of the original, built by W.S. Herron's Calgary Petroleum Products Company in 1913. The well demonstrates the cable tool method of drilling, used in the early days of oil exploration.

Tax Deductible Donations are currently being solicited for these worthy projects.
