CIPC-2006-10: Modern Production Decline Analysis
Instructor/s: David Anderson, Fekete Associates Inc.
Who Should Attend: This tutorial is designed for reservoir, petroleum, and exploitation engineers/ technologists who are involved in reservoir evaluations, reservoir engineering studies and reserves determinations.
Tutorial Description: This tutorial will present some advanced techniques for analyzing production data that go far beyond what traditional decline curves (exponential and hyperbolic) are able to do. Topics include:
A brief introduction to production data analysis, recent advancements
Using type curves to analyze production data: Fetkovich
Equivalence between constant rate and constant pressure solutions
Variable rate/pressure analysis using type curves: Blasingame, Agarwal-Gardner, and NPI
The flowing material balance
Accommodating the variation of gas properties with pressure
Practical diagnostics using production plots and type curves: skin damage, wellbore loading, changing skin, pressure support, interference (and more).
Instructor/s: David Anderson is a technical advisor with Fekete Associates. He has experience in several different areas including production optimization, gas deliverability modeling, and well test analysis. He currently is the technical leader for Feketes RTA (Rate Transient Analysis) group. He has taught numerous industry courses on Advanced Production Decline Analysis and has coauthored several technical publications on both pressure and rate transient analysis.
