On behalf of the Petroleum Society of CIM and the Society of Petroleum Engineers, we are very pleased to invite our colleagues in the oil and gas industry to join us for the first-ever joint meeting of the Canadian International Petroleum Conference and the SPE Gas Technology Symposium. The CIPC will be the Petroleum Society's 59th Annual Technical Meeting, with the theme, Because Technology Changes Everything, while the GTS continues a tradition of investigating technology in the natural gas business with a focus on Unconventional Gas: A Big Part of the Energy Future.
The Conference, held from the 17th to the 19th of June 2008, takes place at Calgary's downtown TELUS Convention Centre. Conference attendees are also encouraged to visit our Technology Exhibition, being held at the same location.
The Conference will address the challenges that our industry faces in bringing new life to maturing basins, developing frontier and unconventional resources, meeting increasing cost pressures and ensuring sustainable production, while at the same time protecting our environment. Our hard-working volunteers have assembled a very high quality technical program with over 170 papers. Technical sessions will cover a wide range of themes, including heavy oil and bitumen recovery methods, material balance and reservoir modelling, drilling and completions, equipment and facilities and many others. The Conference will also feature a plenary session with the theme Unconventional Gas Exploitation, and several special sessions, including CIPC's traditional Graduate Student Paper Competition.
Technical papers are the core of the Conference, but there is much more to our event than that. As in previous years, we will be offering a Pre-Conference program of 14 tutorials on the 16th of June covering a wide variety of topics of interest to oil and gas professionals. Also, newer employees in our industry will have the option of attending a half-day Young Professionals workshop. We will be hosting a luncheon for each day of the Conference, two of which feature prominent keynote speakers. At the luncheon on the 17th of June, you will be challenged and entertained by the well-known Canadian political and social commentator, Rex Murphy, while the luncheon on the 18th of June will feature the energy economist Peter Tertzakian, author of the best-selling book, A Thousand Barrels a Second. Finally, all attendees are invited to a Mixer, which will take place on the first day of the Conference following the technical sessions.
This Conference continues to be one of the best values in the industry. A modest registration fee gives you access to a wider range of technical subjects than ever before; essentially two conferences for the price of one. We will again provide the convenience and flexibility of corporate passes and single-day registrations, and those who register early will enjoy a significant discount.
Our special thanks go to our volunteers and the financial support of our sponsors. Without their dedication to the promotion and exchange of technology, this Conference would not be possible. If you plan to stay abreast of the latest industry advances, exchange ideas with your peers, and expand your technical horizons, mark June 16th through 19th on your calendars and attend CIPC/SPE GTS 2008. If you are coming from out of town, why not also plan to enjoy some of Calgary's famous western hospitality, or take in the natural beauty of nearby areas such as Banff or Kananaskis?
Our website will be updated on a regular basis as the program advances, so please check back often for details and deadlines.
We look forward to seeing you there!
