


This fall, the Society of Petroleum Engineers, the Petroleum Society, and the Canadian Heavy Oil Association (CHOA) will convene in Calgary, Canada, to examine emerging technologies and other critical issues affecting the global heavy oil and bitumen industry. This unique, multi-disciplinary Conference will combine the SPE International Thermal Operations and Heavy Oil Symposium (ITOHOS) and the CHOA Annual Business Conference, and will be held on October 20 - 23, 2008 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada .
The theme for this year's Conference is "Heavy Oil - Integrating the Pieces". ITOHOS is an international conference and exhibition that showcases the most current heavy oil and bitumen technologies from around the world. The scope of the technical program will encompass the economic, technical, and environmental challenges that these sectors are currently facing.
The 2008 ITOHOS Conference & Exhibition agenda includes: a business conference, tutorials, technical conference, and an international technology panel discussion. There is full access to the exhibition and an opening reception, and social event. Author's breakfasts are also featured. The last ITOHOS conference was held in 2005 with over 1,000 delegates attending from many countries around the world.
Of the listed 2005 registrations, approximately 26% were from countries other than Canada; 34% were from oil and gas service companies (the remainder being E&P companies); 17% were middle level technical Managers and 5% were executives at the vice-president or more senior level. In terms of the disciplines represented, 22% were engineers or technologists; 7% were from academia or research organizations; and 3% were geologists or geophysicists.
